contribution
Working with the Upswell team, our challenge was to avoid replicating the typical recording studio website—no gimmicky navigation metaphors, requisite photos of a VU meter, and endless equipment lists. We also had to find a way of conveying the work of an engineer who tailors his workflow to each band’s musical project.
We developed a new visual identity to reflect the studio’s analog bent and its commitment to local PDX culture and musical talent. Integral to this identity is a Flash site featuring a full-browser video of the artist, equipment, and engineer in action. Minimalist content overlays give visitors the important information they need in unobtrusive packets, allowing the mood created by the video and ambient soundtrack to affect visitors with a yearning to be part of the scene.
